Before you can use the Iridium GO! on your smart device, you must download the free Iridium GO! app and the Iridium Mail & Web app from your device's app store. The Iridium GO! is a hotspot that supports up to 5 smart devices. Only one of those smart phones or tablets can make or receive a call at any given time, but all of them can send text, email, share photos or post to Twitter or Facebook. The Iridium GO! can support web browsing of mobile-optimized web sites, but Outfitter Satellite feels that the Iridium 2400 bps to 2800 bps data rate is insufficient to fulfill the web browsing needs of most users. Weather information can also be downloaded using the apps.

The Iridium GO! app has some powerful GPS features. You can send your GPS location at fixed time intervals to friends or colleagues. Obviously, this adds a level of safety and security to someone traveling in a remote location. There is also an S.O.S. button in the app that allows you to tell your friends you are in trouble and give them your location simultaneously.
