The ICOM IC-SAT100 is an Iridium® Push-to-Talk satellite phone with a large front-mount 1500mW speaker that is purpose built for noisy environments. A left-side PTT button and knobs on top of the handset for controlling volume and Talk Group selection make the user experience similar to operating Land Mobile Radios.

Comparison of IC-SAT100 to Iridium Extreme PTT
The IC-SAT100 is a PTT-only satellite phone which cannot make "private" phone calls to fixed or cellular numbers. By comparison, the Iridium Extreme PTT can make "private" phone calls, but only after switching from PTT mode to telephony mode. That said, the IC-SAT100 was purpose built for PTT and has many clear advantages:
- The IC-SAT100 has a field-replaceable flexible antenna. If the antenna of the Iridium Extreme PTT is broken, it must be returned to the factory.
- The IC-SAT100 has the ability to record up to 8 minutes of conversation. This allows someone in a noisy environment to replay the last few incoming transmissions. The Iridium Extreme PTT doesn't have this capability.
- The IC-SAT100 has a bright orange Emergency Button that instantly transmits an alarm in the Priority Talk Group. The Iridium Extreme PTT doesn't have this capability.
- The IC-SAT100 handset can simultaneously send a 100-character text message to all other IC-SAT100 handsets on the current Talk Group. The Iridium Extreme PTT doesn't have Texting-over-PTT capability.
- Android phones connected via Bluetooth to an IC-SAT100 can participate in Texting-over-PTT using a special app.
