Globalstar Car Kit
for the GSP-1600 and GSP-1700

Qualcomm offers car kits for both the GSP-1600 and the GSP-1700 which have the usual handsfree speaker/microphone functionality and can be augmented with a privacy handset. A variety of antenna configurations are possible. The GSP-1600 car kit has optional remotable antenna cable sets up to 80 feet long. The GSP-1700 car kit has three interchangeable antenna configurations including a standard low profile magnetic mount antenna, the marine antenna, and the HX helix antenna (for highest performance). Internet/data access is available through the car kit. The Globalstar Car Kit will charge the phone's internal battery while it is docked. Operates on standard 12 VDC vehicle power.

Maritime Globalstar Equipment

Some marine and boating users have selected the the Globalstar Car Kit because of its excellent coastal and inland waterways coverage. This choice allows the user the additional freedom to undock the GSP-1600 for portable communications while ashore.

If you choose to use a Globalstar Car Kit and GSP-1600 for a maritime application, it is important to realize that the Car Kit was not intended for saltwater or salt air environments and its external and "below decks" components are not "marinized". Careful sealing of the external cable connections and other standard precautions for below decks electronics will tend to extend the lifetime of the equipment but damage due to these environments is not covered under warranty.

Outfitter recommends one of Globalstar's fixed-site systems such as the GSP-2900 (voice and data) or FAU-200 (voice-only) for maritime applications.
